How can I be buried in a shroud in a cemetery today?
Most people are buried within 10 miles of where they live. If you have bought Pre-need property at your local Cemetery
already but have NOT as yet bought anything else, go in and try to find a sympathetic Family Service Counselor and tell them you wish to be
buried naturally unembalmed wrapped in a shroud that you already have purchased with no vault.
REMEMBER: There are few State laws preventing you from being buried however you wish- What is preventing natural
burial is the laws of the Cemetery itself.
BE FIRM-BE INFORMED AND STAND YOUR GROUND FOR WHAT YOU WANT
If they tell you that what you wish is illegal, ask them to tell you which State laws prohibit such a request. If they tell you their
Cemetery by-laws require a vault have them show you the very least they require. This is probably a cement “liner” with sides but no bottom.
They may allow you to be buried in the shroud in the liner OR the may require the shroud to be placed in a wooden casket.
If this is not ecologically sound enough to suit your wishes you can have one of the existing Green Burial Cemeteries arrange
an “Airtray” for the deceased to be sent by air and buried completely naturally in another State. More Green Cemeteries will be popping up soon.
Also, see the website for the: Funeral Consumers Alliance to get their very helpful booklet: “Before I Go” listing
all your wishes for your family & friends to follow. You can keep it with your shroud until the time comes and you are all set! Just the way you want it.
Our customers are driving the Industry to change to Green by demanding that their wishes be met with the same regard as
those who choose a traditional burial. Be apart of the Green Burial Revolution!
